Stuart Diver was a ski instructor at the Bimbadeen Lodge in Thredbo when it was struck by a landslide 25 years ago. 18 people were killed in the disaster, but Diver was able to survive for almost three days before being rescued. This remarkable story of survival is a testament to Diver’s strength and determination.

This was a tragic event that happened over 20 years ago now. On that fateful night, a landslide destroyed two lodges in the Thredbo Alpine Village, resulting in the deaths of 18 people. It’s hard to imagine what those caught up in the disaster must have gone through and our thoughts go out to all those affected by this tragedy.

We are a small town in the middle of Australia and we are quite a distance from any of the larger cities. We are about 55 hours drive from either Sydney or Melbourne, and 25 hours drive from Canberra. We have a few small businesses and a school, but not much else. If you’re looking for a quiet place to live, this might be the place for you.
Thredbo is a great place to take a dip in a scenic pool or lake. Merritts Pond and Friday Flat Pond are two popular spots with locals. Lake Jindabyne is also a beautiful spot for swimming, with various bays suitable for dipping. Rushes Bay is one of the prettiest bays at Lake Jindabyne.

The recent landslide in the area has been a tragic event. Eighteen bodies have been recovered and one survivor has been rescued from under the debris more than 60 hours later. This is a devastating event and our thoughts are with the families of those affected.
The Thredbo Supertrail is a must-do for any advanced skier. This is because it is the longest ski run in Australasia, at 59 kilometres. The trail is also well-groomed, so you can really get your legs burning as you ski down it. On a powder day, you can also try The Bluff for an extra challenge. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can head out to Dead Horse Gap for some backcountry skiing. Whichever way you choose to ski the Supertrail, you’re sure to have an amazing time.
