On Sunday, April 9th, the moderators of /r/feedthebeast arranged and advertised a livestream in order to show off the subreddit’s new theme and updates. The stream was hosted on the website Twitch.tv and was viewable by anyone with the link. The stream was meant to last for two hours.
At around the halfway point, the moderators realized that the stream had not been picking up any viewers despite their efforts to market it. They attempted to fix the problem by restarting the stream and making it viewable to everyone on Reddit, regardless of whether or not they had the link. This did not work, and the moderators eventually gave up and ended the stream early.
This event was later dubbed the “Reddit Livestream Fail” by members of /r/feedthebeast and others on Reddit. It has become a source of jokes and memes among the community.
