Since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the internet has been buzzing with Spiderman memes. Many of these memes are being posted on the most popular websites, including Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram.
It’s easy to see why Spiderman is trending worldwide. Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed a whopping $600.8 million worldwide on release. Yes, you read that right. During unprecedented times, when there is a global pandemic and uncertainty in almost all facets of life, while cinemas have been closed for months, No Way Home had the 3rd biggest worldwide opening in the history of cinema, behind Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.
In case you haven’t noticed already, there are spoilers ahead.
Spider-Man: No Way Home begins right where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off. Mysterio has just revealed to the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. During the ensuing chaos, Spider-Man decides that the best way to deal with his problems is to ask Dr. Strange for a favor which involves casting a spell that will make everyone on Earth forget Spider-Man’s identity.
However, this spell quickly goes awry and results in vintage villains from Sam Raimi’s original Spiderman trilogy as well as the Amazing Spider-man movies crossing over into the MCU. These villains include the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Sandman from the Raimi movies and Electro and Lizard from the Amazing Spiderman.
However, that’s not the end of the list of crossovers. Suppose you’ve been following anything even related to Marvel and the MCU. In that case, you’d know that there have been hundreds of leaks confirming that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will play their own, original versions of Spider-Man in this latest movie. Even Daredevil makes a cameo, played by the same actor who played Daredevil in the Netflix show, Charlie Cox.
Yet another crossover that is no less shocking is Tom Hardy’s Venom being present in the MCU for the events of this movie. This was revealed during the post-credits scene of Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage.
As you can probably tell, this reveals set the entire internet off. The hype surrounding this movie, especially due to the leaks, played no small part in the massive worldwide opening that Spider-Man: No Way Home enjoyed.
It has also gotten rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with loyal Spider-man fans who have been keeping up with the comics and the movies for years feeling the most rewarded for their loyalty.
This hype and popularity have caused the internet to do what it does best: make memes. Every online forum and social media has been exploding with countless Spiderman memes, some of which require deep knowledge of the character’s decades-long history. Others focus on the events of the movie itself.
The internet has not seen this many Marvel-related memes since Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame (remember seeing nothing but Thanos quotes on social media for weeks?). Below are some of our favorites:
