Here are some thoughts from people who were there at that time…
I drove through that the day after it happened, completely on accident actually, made a wrong turn trying to get back to 43.
It was eerie, seeing all the burnt-out places, and I just remember driving by the BP that had gotten torched and there were two people just standing there, looking completely lost.

Here are a few opinions about looting:
I think one of the major issues is that they tried to do peaceful protests and they didn’t work at all. Not only did they not work, but they were told outright not to do them (taking the knee, for example). In the eyes of protesters, what other options do they have?
I think it causes a deep problem for the city itself. From what I understand, and please correct me if I’m wrong, the burned down Target, liquor store, and McDonald’s have been in lower economic areas of town.
For the most part, these businesses are not going to invest in rebuilding their locations that were damaged/ destroyed in the riots. And now that a police station has been burned, it may just lead to more drastic police measures where they see situations at possibly dangerous and try to use excessive force in order to protect themselves if something seems to be growing out of hand.
