So whats going on with Clint Eastwood Empty Chair Meme?
Everything starts on august 30 2012 and Clint’s speech.
At the big giant meeting of the republican party, he was a speaker, instead of giving a speech he pretended to talk to Obama by talking to a chair. It probably was the sort of thing that sounded funny on paper but he had really awkward delivery and it made him look crazy because he was sort of pausing and panting the whole time.
Some of the points were off-message too.
He criticized Obama for not having pulled out of Afghanistan yet (Obama’s plan is 2014), but Romney wants to stay in Afghanistan even longer.
Mr. Eastwood decided to turn his speech into a comedy routine, which he framed as himself interviewing an empty chair that was supposed to hold the President. This is, oddly, not the first time this has been done. Burton K. Wheeler talked to an empty chair (Calvin Coolidge) in 1924, John Foster Dulles talked to an empty chair (Herbert Lehman) in 1949, and Mickey Kaus debated an empty chair (Barbara Boxer) in 2010. This has been done several other times, but perhaps never by so famous a personage as Mr. Eastwood.
