Khabane Lame (now @khaby.lame) made his debut video on TikTok on March 15, 2020. The video showed Khabane cleaning his hands with hand sanitizer. In just one year, the video earned over 11,100 likes and 3,000 comments.
On February 17th, 2021, @khaby.lame shared a video about his reaction to a phone charger stuck ironic life hack by @breaktheglasshandle. In just three months, the video had acquired over 4.6 million likes and 29,000 comments.
After that video, he became very popular. People made memes about him reacting to various life hack videos. User lolpollll on the website Reddit posted a meme with an image of Khaby Lame watching life hack videos. In just eight days, the post (seen below) has gotten a lot of upvotes.
Khaby Lame’s memes then progressed beyond object-labeling to photoshopped variations. Shankar Sarkar, a Facebook user, uploaded the image to the “Marvel Memes” group on May 3rd, 2021. The post on the left generated over 16,000 reactions and 21,000 shares in just four days. On May 4th, 2021, Teddy posted a Khaby Lame meme to the “Don’t click this or you’ll regret it ENTERTAINMENT” group on Facebook. In just three days, the post generated over 2,800 replies and 634 shares.

The Khaby or It’s That Simple Lame Shrug is a collection of screenshots from a TikTok video from 2021 in which Lame criticizes a lousy pizza life hack. He shrugs and gestures with his hands to emphasize the obvious, easier option.
