Has Kermit the Frog Been Caught on Camera Cursing?
Kermit the Frog is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in pop culture. He has been a part of generations of people’s lives since his first appearance on the Muppets in 1974. But has he ever been caught on camera cursing? It turns out that there are a few rumors that suggest he may have slipped up at least once.
The first rumor involves a scene from The Muppet Movie, where Kermit is seen singing “Rainbow Connection” while walking through the swamp. Some viewers noticed that he seemed to be muttering something under his breath as he walked, and it sounded suspiciously like a curse word. But when asked about it, Jim Henson (the creator of the Muppets) insisted that Kermit had not cursed, but was actually just singing in an off-key way.
Another rumor involves an episode of Sesame Street where Kermit was seen telling Grover to “shut up” in a rather harsh tone. Again, Jim Henson insisted that it was not a curse word, but simply an expression of frustration.
So while there have been some rumors about Kermit cursing on camera, it appears as if these are unsubstantiated claims and that our favorite amphibian has managed to stay out of trouble all these years. We can only assume that this is due to his exemplary behavior and dedication to being a role model for children everywhere!
Is It Common for Muppets to Curse?
Muppets are known for their family-friendly comedy, and while it’s not common for them to curse, there have been some instances where they’ve used language that could be considered inappropriate. Most notably, in The Muppet Show, Gonzo the Great famously used the word “damn” during a performance of “The Rainbow Connection,” much to the surprise of Kermit the Frog. In other instances, characters such as Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear have used words like “darn” and “heck” to express frustration or surprise.
That said, cursing is not a usual part of Muppet dialogue. Most writers and performers strive for an appropriate level of humor that appeals to young and old alike. The vast majority of Muppet content is designed to be lighthearted and funny without resorting to foul language or off-color jokes.

Kermit the Frog Cursing

One example of Kermit the Frog cursing comes from a segment on The Muppet Show in which Kermit gets so angry that he yells out “Blast it!” Another instance occurred during an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien when Kermit referred to Miss Piggy as a “stupid pig.” Additionally, in the film Muppets From Space, Kermit uttered a more explicit phrase when he exclaimed “Holy mackerel!”
Kermit’s language may be seen as mild in comparison to some of his fellow Muppets. For example, in the 2012 film The Muppets, Fozzie Bear let out a few expletives during one of his stand-up routines. Likewise, Gonzo has said some rather colorful words during some of his more rambunctious stunts. In any case, it is clear that even though Kermit has been known to utter a few profanities here and there, he still remains an upstanding character who typically uses language fit for family viewing.
